North East England is one of the nine official regions of England. It covers Northumberland County Durham Tyne and Wear and Teesside (including parts of North Yorkshire). The largest cities in the region are Sunderland and Newcastle both of which are located in the Metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear. Other large settlements in the region include: Darlington Durham Gateshead Hartlepool Middlesbrough Redcar South Shields Stockton-on-Tees.
